August 28, 2016

Part 1 – Flexibility Training – Reading We tend to think of Noah and the Ark as a tale for children.  “Noah, he built him an arky arky.”  “The animals they came two by two.”  “The rain came down and the flood came up.”  But the reality is more like those videos on Facebook when … More More than just a children’s story

Mission Statement

The purpose of this website is to encourage Christians to build their faith by getting to know the God of the Bible and His Son, Jesus Christ, through regular, daily reading of the Bible, God’s written word for us. It is intended for those who have already met Jesus and have embraced Him as the One who pays their just penalty for the evil and the sin they have done and the good they have left undone. But perhaps if you are wondering about Jesus, or the Christian life, you can find some answers as well. Whatever your reasons for coming here, I pray the Holy Spirit will teach you and answer your questions. As Paul said in Ephesians 4:14, I want to help you grow in knowledge of the Son of God, so that together we "will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.”

Which Bible Version to use?

There are a couple of ways we translate from one language into another. For example, in Latin, St. Jerome said “Dum excusare credis, accusas”. A word-for-word tranalation would be “While to excuse you believe, you accuse.” That’s a little confusing. Another way of translating it would be phrase-by-phrase. “While you believe you are excusing yourself, you are actually accusing yourself.” To increase understanding (without actually learning Greek and Hebrew), it would be good to go back and forth between the two different types of translations. The ESV (8th grade reading level) or NAS (11th grade reading level) are solid Word-For-Word translations. For the Phrase-By-Phrase translation, the NLT (6th grade reading level and in modern English).

About the Author

Pat grew up in a strong Baptist Church, with Sunday School teachers who taught the Bible and required their students to memorize it. This has been a blessing through the years to have these verses come back in times of trouble and in times of joy. She spent many years living overseas as a teacher. While in a setting of mixed Christian denominations, her studies lead her into a more Reformed approach to understanding and applying the Bible to every aspect of life. Her fellowship with Christians from different denominations from around the world has also given her an appreciation for a rich and varied approach to worship, while still remaining faithful to what God, through His Word, has said He requires. The biographies and the instruction found in the Bible are a profound part of her faith and life, which is why she is compelled to share them with you now through this website.
